In December 2025, the Kentucky Wildcats announced Will Stein as their new head coach. Stein previously worked with several programs as a position coach but was never at the helm as a head coach.
Under his leadership, the Wildcats are expected to reset the program and become title contenders. But before Stein builds a stable roster, he is dealing with the transfer portal and the setbacks it brings.
Since the portal opened on January 2, several players have moved out, and some have arrived in Kentucky from other programs. The transfer portal window will close on January 16 for teams not in the national title contention.
So far, Stein has lost a few great players. Cutter Boley is arguably the most notable name on the list. The quarterback started the last 10 games for Kentucky this season and has now transferred to Arizona State.

Some major names in the transfer portal, such as Sam Leavitt, visited Kentucky earlier, but either they ended up joining another program or they shifted their focus elsewhere.
