We’re just days away from the CFP Championship game between the Indiana Hoosiers and the Miami Hurricanes. The teams will battle it out for the title on Monday, January 20, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
As the College Football Playoff reaches a conclusion, both teams will have plenty of support inside the arena and throughout the country, with people watching it from their homes.
As per a report by Axios, President Donald Trump is also expected to be in attendance with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. But is the president supporting one team over the other, or is he simply attending the final for the love of the game?
There are some connections between Trump and the Miami Hurricanes. While his support for Miami isn’t confirmed, it’s worth noting that his granddaughter, Kai Trump, has signed with the Hurricanes women’s golf team as part of the Class of 2026.
Even though Trump wouldn’t be outrightly supporting Miami, someone in his family would be rooting for the Hurricanes. He is known to be very close to Kai, who often travels with him, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see the president cheer louder for one team.
Both teams have had different journeys to reach the final. The Indiana Hoosiers were able to establish themselves as arguably the strongest team in the league from the very beginning of the season.
The Hurricanes, on the other hand, had their fair share of ups and downs. The number 10 team was able to make the playoffs, a decision that sparked controversies, but since then, they’ve been dominant.
The matchup between a number 1-ranked team and a number 10-ranked team is expected to be thrilling as they battle it out to win the coveted title.
Donald Trump Seemingly Blasted the Michigan Wolverines
Trump has openly talked about his disdain for the NIL structure that some programs have adopted. Paying large sums to players who have just come out of high school is an unsustainable model, in his opinion.
In December 2025, Trump spoke on the same subject. He stated that college programs don’t make enough money to give $14 million contracts to freshman players.
“Even the most successful universities don’t make that much money, and you can’t pay a quarterback $14 million to come out of high school. They don’t even know if he’s gonna be a very good player,” he SAID.
In his opinion, this will set up a terrible precedent and will lead to the eventual downfall of programs.
