Renowned Texas Tech donor Cody Campbell responded to Steve Sarkisian’s jab at the Red Raiders and sent a blunt message to the Texas head coach.

Sarkisian took a dig at Joey McGuire’s Texas Tech a few days ago with his comments on their strength of schedule.

“There’s a team in our state that plays in another conference that has a schedule that I would argue if I played with our 2s and our 3s, we could go undefeated, and they’ll probably make the CFP [College Football Playoff] this year,” Sarkisian said.

McGuire responded by saying he would love to play against the Longhorns and find out if their twos and threes can actually win in the Big 12.

Doubling down on McGuire’s challenge, Campbell, who is the Chairman of the Board of Regents of Texas Tech University, sent a message to Sarkisian.

“I don’t know if you know the difference between bulls and steers,” campbell said on the pat mcafee show. “Do you know the difference? the bulls kind of go trotting around, looking. There’s an important physical difference. And this is a family show, so I’m not going to lay it out to you. but I think a lot of your viewers know, and maybe have some of your guys look it up. But, the Longhorns mascot is a steer. And it’s become very clear that there are quite a few steers down in Austin and not very many bulls. And let me tell you something. When Sark opened his mouth and he picked a fight with a bunch of West Texas boys, he should have known that he better get ready to pack a lunch because we’re ready to strap it on. Hell, yeah. We’re ready to spot the ball, and we’re ready to go. So September 3rd, September 5th, you name the place, we’ll be there, and we’ll go at it.”

According to ESPN’s Bill Connelly, Texas ranked 13th in strength of schedule last season, and Texas Tech ranked 45th.

Paul Finebaum Calls Out Steve Sarkisian for Dig at Ole Miss

Texas Tech wasn’t the only school that caught strays from Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns head coach also took a shot at Ole Miss’ academic standards.

In an interview with USA Today, Sarkisian said schools like Ole Miss give players degrees for “basket weaving.”

“At Texas, we will only take 50% of a player’s academic credit hours,” Sarkisian told USA Today. “You may be a semester from graduating, but you’re going all the way back to 50% if you play here and want a degree. But at Ole Miss, they can take you. All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.”

Paul Finebaum hit back at Sarkisian, accusing him of “whining and complaining.” He also highlighted how the Texas head coach makes about $12 million per year and claimed that none of his players are enrolling with the program for the curriculum.

“They’re going for the money,” Finebaum added on Get Up.

Sarkisian ended the 2025 college football season with an overall record of 10-3.
