Bill Belichick’s first year at North Carolina didn’t go as planned. The Tar Heels finished the 2025 season with a 4-8 record. However, there appears to be some more offseason trouble for the coach, according to former UNC quarterback Marquise Williams.
On Thursday, Williams announced that he plans to boycott North Carolina games in 2026 in a rather cryptic tweet.
“I will not be attending any UNC football games this year! The things I’m hearing man I would have never thought,” Williams tweeted.
Fans on social media had mixed reactions to Williams’ tweet about his former team.
“It’s been a disaster since they announced the BB hire. Idk how anybody thought that was a good idea,” one tweeted.
“If we win in Ireland, you have to come to the first home game dressed as a leprechaun,” another added.
“I only remember you because your turnovers gifted South Carolina a win, cool opinion tho,” a third commented.
Here are a few more reactions.
“Bill has enough rings from the NFL to almost need another hand. How many years did you play in the NFL and how many rings do you have? Sit this one out Mr. Nobody,” one wrote.
“Had to Google you to find out why anyone would care. They don’t Fyi,” another added.
“Do you have relavancy issues? What’s this about other than garnering attention?” a user tweeted.
Although Williams wasn’t even part of Belichick’s team in 2025, his announcement about boycotting UNC games appears to have some concerned.
Marquise Williams Spent Five Years at North Carolina
Marquise Williams played at North Carolina for five years, from 2011 to 2015. He led the Tar Heels to the ACC Championship game in his final season, where UNC lost to Clemson.
Williams finished his collegiate career with 7,965 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, 25 interceptions, and 35 rushing TDs. He earned second-team All-ACC selections in 2014 and 2015.
Williams went undrafted in 2016.
