The UConn Huskies honored five seniors, including Azzi Fudd, on Sunday. The Huskies had a blowout 81-38 win against the Providence Friars, their 29th win of the season, and they are yet to lose a game.
Other than Fudd, redshirt senior guard Caroline Ducharme, senior forward Serah Williams, redshirt junior Ice Brady, and redshirt sophomore Ayanna Patterson were also honored after the Providence game.
Each player received loud applause from a sold-out crowd at Gampel Pavilion. After the game and the ceremony, some of the UConn players went to the press conference, which became very emotional.
KK Arnold, guard for the UConn Huskies since 2023, spoke about Fudd and what this group means to her and the program. She said that Fudd is an example of someone who has battled adversities and has come back even stronger.
While she was giving Fudd her flowers, who was sitting at the same table, Arnold couldn’t control her emotions and had to stop herself from shedding tears.
“I’m seeing Azzi battle adversity and just come back,” she said. “The great player that she is, it means a lot and just…Yeah, I’m gonna stop there…I’mma start crying. But yeah, they meant a lot to me.”
The game against Providence was Fudd’s last regular-season game for the UConn Huskies at Gampel Pavilion. She’s destined to be a WNBA superstar, and her fans will continue to see her win for years to come.
But for the UConn players, her teammates, and the coaches, this is almost the end of her journey with them.
Azzi Fudd Reflected on Her Time at UConn
After winning the game against Providence, Fudd had a conversation with Fox Sports and talked about the pressure she felt when she joined the Huskies. They have been one of the most revered programs for decades, and Fudd felt nervous at the time.
“I was so nervous. … I was definitely intimidated by all the banners, all the names and all the awards surrounded by me,” she said.
It didn’t take long for Fudd to get comfortable there, and since then, she has become one of the best players in the country and in the program’s history.
“And as I continued — many years later — I’ve definitely learned that having that around you is a privilege and getting to learn from that, getting to follow in their footsteps, to learn from the best, playing with the best every single day is such a privilege and you take advantage of that,” she added.
UConn has just two more regular-season games left, against Georgetown and St John’s NY. Both of them will be road games.
