UConn Huskies vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Geno Auriemma vs Niele Ivey, Azzi Fudd vs Hannah Hidalgo. We are in for a treat in the Elite Eight. The matchup that everyone is looking forward to is upon us. The Huskies have been arguably the best team in college basketball this season. They are unbeaten with a 37-0 overall record and a 20-0 Big East.
It has been easy sailing for UConn so far. They have won the majority of their games with huge margins. Auriemma’s Huskies have also been flying in the NCAA Tournament so far. After winning the Big East tournament championship with quite ease, the NCAA Tournament hasn’t really been much of a test either.
They won three games in the Big East tournament, 90-51, 100-51, and 90-51. Now in the NCAA Tournament, the scorelines are just as dominant: 90-52 in the first round vs UTSA, 98-45 in the second round vs Syracuse, and 63-42 in the Sweet 16 vs UNC.
However, the Elite Eight clash against Notre Dame might just be their biggest test yet. And that is mainly because of Hannah Hidalgo. Azzi Fudd recently talked about the kind of player Hidalgo is and how it feels playing against her.
“I mean, Hannah’s relentless. You can like just see her drive. You can see her intensity. She wants to win every single game. The way that she, I mean, to get that many steals, that many assists, all the above like that takes a different kind of person, a different kind of heart. So she’s a super challenging player to play against,” Azzi Fudd said about facing Hannah Hidalgo.
Azzi Fudd Talks Strategy For Elite Eight Matchup vs Notre Dame
When asked how Huskies are preparing to play against a Notre Dame side with so much momentum and form, Azzi Fudd had a calm and collected reply. She acknowledged how well Notre Dame has been playing lately.
She mentioned that UConn has to stay focused and intentional about every play. She reiterated how the Huskies need to play their best and be the UConn team everybody knows. Hannah Hidalgo and Notre Dame would be hungry to avenge their loss earlier in the season.
