There have been a lot of great players in women’s basketball over the years. Some players conquered college basketball by winning everything, and some players’ impact lasted long. From A’ja Wilson to Caitlin Clark, the level of women’s basketball in the modern game has improved tenfold, and the newer stars are only taking it upwards.
One of the major contributors to that cause has been Hannah Hidalgo. Notre Dame’s 5’6 guard has been one live wire of a player ever since her debut. Even in her freshman year, Hidalgo quickly became one of the most impactful players not only for her team, but also across the country. She has won the ACC Player of the Year award twice, along with the ACC Defensive Player of the Year four times.
Many admire Hidalgo’s work ethic, passion, and insane intensity on the court. She is lively, rapid, and relentless. Due to traits like that, she is a fan favorite. Analyst Stephen A. Smith recently revealed how much he likes Hannah Hidalgo’s game.
“I’m watching some women’s college basketball. I got to tell y’all right now, I love that girl, Hidalgo. I mean, I love her. I mean, little feisty thing going out there balling. I can’t take my eyes off of watching her play. I just wanted to say that. I just wanted to say that before we started this discussion. I really really like her. She could ball a little bit. Little feisty thing. Get out. I like that,” Stephen A. Smith said.
Andraya Carter replied:
“One of the smartest things I’ve heard you say, Stephen A. You are You are on point with that one. She’s electric. She’s exciting. And she is a two-way player. I know y’all have been talking a lot about defense lately in the NBA. We respect defense around here and Hannah Hidalgo gets it done on both ends of the floor. She’s got a big assignment today, going against Vanderbilt. But that’s quality analysis on your part, Stephen. A, that’s a good one.”
Hannah Hidalgo Leads Notre Dame into the Elite Eight
Hidalgo just showed everyone what she can do on her best day. She led Notre Dame in a victory over Vanderbilt, which had the country’s top scorer, Mikayla Blakes. Blakes scored 26 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. However, it was not enough. The 67-64 game went to Notre Dame.
Hidalgo ended with an outlandish triple-double. She scored 31 points, with 11 rebounds and 10 steals. On top of that, she also had 7 assists. Crazy to think that she was just three assists from a rare quadruple-double. Now Notre Dame will face the UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight.
