“She Called Me a Throwback”: Sarah Strong’s Mom Allison Feaster Spills the Beans on Harsh Nickname From UConn Star

Sarah Strong added another milestone to her remarkable season by winning the 2026 Wooden Award on April 11. She is one of the most dominant players in college basketball today. As her rise in the game continues, her mother, Allison Feaster, shared a lighthearted moment during a recent ESPN interview.

“She called me a throwback,” Feaster said with a smile, recalling her daughter’s playful jab.

While the nickname drew laughs, Feaster made it clear there’s much more to her daughter than a quick sense of humor.

“I mean, hopefully you gleaned a little bit from her personality with the shade she threw at me,” she said. “But she’s a good human being.”

She pointed out that Strong’s character reflects the values associated with the John R. Wooden Award. That balance of personality and humility has become a defining trait for the UConn standout. Long before Strong’s rise at UConn, Feaster had her own moment in college basketball history, leading Harvard to a memorable NCAA Tournament upset over Stanford, a milestone that helped elevate the women’s game.

Now, years later, she’s watching the next generation take things even further.

“To know that these young women will have a chance to potentially earn a million dollar contracts, it means the world,” Feaster said, speaking about the growth of women’s basketball.

Her words highlight just how far the sport has come and how players like Strong are benefiting from that progress.

How Did Sarah Strong Perform This Season?

The UConn sophomore put together one of the most dominant seasons in recent history, averaging 18.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and impacting the game on both ends of the floor. She swept multiple national honors, including the Wooden Award, Naismith Player of the Year, and AP Player of the Year.

Even in a season that ended with a national championship loss, her individual contribution was undeniable.

Her journey has been shaped by the bond she shares with her mother.

“I just look up to her so much,” Strong said in a recent tribute. “She’s my mom, but she’s like my sister.”

That connection built on respect, humor, and support continues to shine through moments like this.
