Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies have produced some of the best talents in women’s basketball. Coach Auriemma has brought new life to the Huskies program. Many dream of growing under him and playing for the Huskies. The latest big talent to fulfil her dream is Sarah Strong.
After winning the national championship in her freshman season, she established herself as one of Auriemma’s most trusted players. She started all her games in her freshman year and has only gotten stronger with time. She has taken her game to another level. This season, she is averaging 18.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
UConn has been blessed with some great players over the years. Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, Sue Bird, Lisa Leslie, Maya Moore, Rebecca Lobo, Napheesa Collier, Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and now Sarah Strong are just a few names of the Huskies legacy. Despite so many legends, Strong stands alone, as she recently inked her name in UConn history.
Strong has become the first player in UConn Huskies history to have 600 points and 100 steals. She also has over 600 rebounds and over 280 assists, which in itself is impressive, as she is only in her sophomore year.
Fans React as Sarah Strong Makes UConn History
Fans online were in awe after learning about Sarah Strong’s achievement and shared their reactions.
“She’s only a sophomore and already breaking records at the greatest program in women’s hoops. The rest of the NCAA is cooked. Cause hitting 600 points and 100 steals before your junior year is nasty work. UConn really found another cheat code,” one fan explained.
“Sarah Strong’s putting UConn back on the map. Women’s college basketball needed this energy,” one fan claimed.
“UConn women making history is the least surprising headline of March. that program is a dynasty factory,” another appreciated.
“Doing this as a sophomore at UConn Huskies women’s basketball is wild most players don’t peak until their senior year,” one fan adored.
“In a program that had Maya Moore and Breanna Stewart, being the first to do this as a sophomore is actually insane. Is Sarah Strong already on track to be the UConn GOAT?” one fan wondered.
“In a program with legends like Moore, Taurasi, Bird, Moore… being the FIRST to hit 600/100 in a single season is actually insane. Sarah Strong is different, different,” another said.
