Even though Dawn Staley has tried her best to give star center Madina Okot another year of eligibility, the NCAA denied her request. She played her first few years of college in Kenya, with Staley arguing that this should not count because it was a different case, but the NCAA did not agree.
Now, Okot is projected to join the WNBA draft later this month, but the question is, where would she land?
Okot is a dominant center, but due to her only starting to play the game later in her life, she does not have as much experience as the other centers in the draft, such as Lauren Betts. This means she could go after them but is also projected not to go below the top 10.
Top 3 Landing Spots For Madina Okot in the WNBA Draft
No. 10 – Indiana Fever
With centers Adu Fam and Lauren Betts projected to go ahead of her, the latest she could drop to should be the Indiana Fever.
The team has great guards, led by none other than Caitlin Clark, but they also need a center right now, and if Betts or Fam would be drafted ahead of her, they could go for Okot, and she could be a force on the inside, dominating in the paint while Clark rains 3s from the outside.
No. 6 – Toronto Tempo
The newest team in the league have gotten through their expansion draft just fine, but they may need a backup center in the middle. While she played well in college, many still consider Madina Okot to be a little bit rough around the edges, so a team may look at her as a backup center.
This could mean that Nyara Sabally, who the Tempo picked in their expansion draft, could take Okot under her wing and refine her a bit as her backup.
No. 4 – Washington Mystics
On the chance that the No. 1 Dallas Wings do not pick Azzi Fudd and go for Adu Fam, the No. 2 pick could go for Lauren Betts, which means centers could go 1 and 2 in the draft. The team projected to get Betts, the Mystics, could go for the next-best center instead, and that is Madina Okot.
