UCLA has produced a dominant sister duo in star center Lauren Betts and rising freshman power forward Sienna Betts. The two have become a force in the paint, dominating opponents on the post as well as in battling for rebounds. However, this partnership will only last a year, as while Sienna is still a freshman, big sister Lauren is now a senior and is slated to become the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft this year.
However, Lauren Betts did not start out as the double-double machine that she is today. While she was a five-star freshman herself, much like Sienna, she did not get much playtime back then. So how did freshman Lauren compare to her younger sister’s freshman year?
Lauren Betts vs Sienna Betts Rookie Season Comparison
Lauren Betts Freshman Stats
While the elder Betts sister averages almost 30 minutes per game as a senior, she barely even reached 10 minutes per game as a freshman, averaging just 9.6 minutes. However, she made good use of it as she soon developed into a reliable post presence and a dominant center in the coming years.
As a freshman with those minutes, Lauren Betts averaged just 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game, to come along with 0.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. This is a far cry to what she has been doing as a junior, averaging 30.1 minutes, 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game.
She had her best stats as a junior and was more than willing to play less minutes and scored less as a senior, as she only averaged 27.5 minutes, 17.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. This showed that she was more than willing to share the ball as a senior and improved her passing game.
Sienna Betts Freshman Stats
As for Sienna Betts, she got more playing time as a freshman than her sister did, though not as many touches on the ball. She averaged 14.7 minutes per game, leading to her getting 6.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. Lauren was a 60.2% field goal shooter, while Siena was a 54.5% field goal shooter.
As for what happens to Sienna, she will likely stay at UCLA and not move up to center, probably staying as power forward once her sister leaves.
