Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies won their record 12th national championship last season. With Azzi Fudd, Sarah Strong, and KK Arnold, they have continued their impressive form this season. UConn won the title in 2025 after nine years. Auriemma, with Breanna Stewart, won four national championships in a row from 2013-16.
When Paige Bueckers started, there were always conversations that she would bring back the championship. Although she could not do that in her first four years, Bueckers led them to a national championship in her redshirt senior season. She had outstanding support from her girlfriend Azzi Fudd, freshman Sarah Strong, and Sophomore KK Arnold. After Bueckers was drafted in 2025, the other three have led UConn to an unbeaten season so far.
The UConn Huskies are 21-0 this season and clearly one of the best teams. They look capable of going all the way and defending their national championship. Just like the consistency in UConn’s winning record, Azzi Fudd also carried an impressive record. She held the program’s record for most consecutive free throws made, with 40. Unfortunately, this streak ended against the Xavier Musketeers this week.
Right after Fudd missed her free throw, the camera showed Arnold, who was holding her nose and seemed super disappointed. Many confused this reaction and thought it was a kind of an overreaction to Fudd’s missed free throw.
However, as it turns out, the reaction was not for Fudd at all. KK Arnold has had a partially broken nose since before the game, and the Xavier player hit Arnold on the nose, which is why Fudd was taking the free throw.
Fans React to Azzi Fudd Missing Her First Free Throw After 40 Successful Ones
Fans online were sad to see Azzi Fudd’s amazing streak getting snapped, and they also made sense of KK Arnold’s reaction.
“KK’s reaction is sending me,” one fan commented.
“I think that probably had more to do with the fact that she’d just been elbowed in the face,” another fan replied.
“That’s her reaction to when she got elbowed in the bridge of her already broken nose. That wasn’t to Azzi’s FT,” another explained.
“Why would u post this,” one fan said sadly.
“Now I’m crying again,” another said.
“Not sure why y’all posted this I’m irritated all over again,” another fan expressed sadness.
