“Looked Like Such A B*tch”: Geno Auriemma Gets Grilled By Analyst For Dawn Staley Beef After Final Four Loss To South Carolina

It appears UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma is not getting any support following his beef with South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley at the end of the controversial Final Four game.

Unhappy with the officiating in the loss, Auriemma first lied that Staley didn’t greet him before the game. Moreover, at the end of the game, instead of doing a handshake, Auriemma said something to Staley, which made the Gamecocks coach furious. The two had to be separated by players and coaches nearby.

New York reporter Kayce Smith is the latest to chime in on the highly talked-about beef. Smith was asked if Staley could take down Auriemma in a fight if it were to go down that way.

“A thousand percent, and she would whoop his a**,” Smith said. “There is just no doubt about it. First of all, when a woman is angry, as you guys know, when a woman is angry, hell hath no fury. And then for her to say, I’m going to beat his a** or whatever it was, I believe her. I believe her a hundred percent. He was being a bitch.

“He looked like such an idiot. He looked like such a b**ch. And for her to speak, I’m going to beat his a**. I’m like, ‘Do it, please. We need this. We need this to happen.’ I just, the whole thing was, was, and even his apology, I wasn’t buying his apology either. But if I’m betting in a rough and rowdy barstool style, I’m taking Don Staley 10 out of 10.”

Geno Auriemma’s Apology Not Well Received; Dawn Staley Adds An Update

It is not only Kayce Smith but even ESPN analyst Michael Wilbon called out the UConn head coach for his “classless” act in the beef, labeling him a “massively insecure bully.”

“It’s disgraceful behavior of a massively insecure bully. It was petulant, it was classless,” Wilbon said. “The fictionalization of the ripped jersey is unbelievable. The apology didn’t even address the person that he offended (South Carolina coach Dawn Staley).”

The apology from Auriemma mentioned that his action was inexcusable. However, he did not apologize directly to Staley by name. Staley also later said she had not heard from him personally.

This has led many to raise questions against Auriemma’s character as it appears the moment got the better of even the longest tenured coach in women’s basketball.
