Flau’jae Johnson’s LSU Tigers played the South Carolina Gamecocks on Valentine’s Day. Considering they had home floor advantage, LSU had a strong chance of winning the game against one of the best teams in the country.
The Gamecocks ended up winning the game 79-72. Despite Johnson’s best efforts with 21 points and eight rebounds, the Tigers couldn’t rally behind her and push for the win.
Johnson’s 21-point performance was tied with South Carolina’s Tessa Johnson for the highest score in the game. Following the loss, her mother posted a video on social media, talking about how Johnson could beat “South Carolina in real life.”
Her rant went viral and has been viewed millions of times since. She talked about Johnson being a great player, how she’ll be drafted higher than any South Carolina player, and that she’s set for life because she’s not relying on basketball alone.
Doc Holliday responded to her viral rant, asking some uncomfortable questions while giving Johnson a harsh reality check. Holliday said that while he understands why she defended her daughter, he was confused over the shade she threw at South Carolina players.
“My thing is, you can defend your daughter, I get it. But you don’t need to take those unnecessary shots at the young ladies who play basketball at South Carolina,” Holliday said.
He also spoke about Johnson’s mother’s comment about her music.
“Unfortunately, I don’t know if Flau’jae’s mom knows it or not, but there’s not a lot of money in the music business anymore.”
Holliday stated that Johnson might already have a lot of money and has established her future financially, but she’d still want to make more money from the WNBA and build her brand. As popular as she is, Johnson is far from her ceiling as a basketball player and a star.
Flau’jae Johnson’s Mother’s Viral Rant
Johnson’s mother has made headlines with her recent viral rant after the LSU Tigers were defeated by the South Carolina Gamecocks. She talked about how the entire point of going to the WNBA is to make money.
If that’s the truth, then Johnson doesn’t need the WNBA because she’s already rich.
“The whole goal is to go to the WNBA and get you a bag, right? Get you a bag and provide for your family, right?” she said. “Flau’jae has already done that. She’s already done that. Flau’jae don’t even have to go to the league. She is set for life. Her momma set her up for life.”
Many fans have stated that the shots she took at the South Carolina players were necessary.
