LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson recently spoke about her loyalty to her current coach and her program. On Tuesday, Feb. 3, internet personality Reginae Carter uploaded a video to her official Instagram account that features her recent interview with Johnson on her “Heir Time” podcast.
Carter asked Johnson why she has stayed loyal to coach Kim Mulkey and her LSU women’s college basketball program throughout her college career, when entering the transfer portal is the inevitable move for players. For Johnson, it boils down to leaving a lasting legacy for the Tigers program and the great deal of learning she has received from Mulkey.
“Yeah. I love coach Kim. I love LSU, and I really want to leave a legacy. I feel like I played with a lot of great players. Many players that came in, many players have left, but I’ve been there the whole four years like I know the system. I know Coach Mulkey, and I know how much I’ve developed over the time. So for me, I don’t know, I’m just loyal to the soil,” Johnson shared.

Johnson is in her fourth and likely final year of collegiate hoops before she possibly vies for the WNBA through the 2026 Draft. She has spent all of her seasons with coach Mulkey and the Tigers, during which their biggest accomplishment was clinching the 2023 national championship, which was Johnson’s freshman campaign. It remains LSU’s only NCAA title in the program history.
Flau’jae Johnson Compared The Transfer Portal To Being Single
Before Flau’jae Johnson told Reginae Carter why she has stayed loyal to Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers, Carter asked Johnson to explain what the transfer portal is and how it works. Johnson jokingly compared it to being single, as an individual is ready to meet new people.
“It’s like it’s just a portal where players go when they don’t wanna be at their school no more. It’s like being single, you know what I’m saying? So you’re in a relationship and then y’all break up, you back in the portal like, you know what I’m saying?,” Johnson explained.
