LSU Tigers’ shooting guard Flau’jae Johnson is being praised by fans for her selfless gesture. Recently, LSU Women’s Basketball’s social media page announced a charity work that the Tigers’ assistant coach, Bob Starkey, is doing.
Starkey and his wife Sherie are donating $1 dollar to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a charitable organization committed to raising money for life-saving cancer research, for every LSU student in attendance for the Arkansas game.
The game will be played today at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, and it has a capacity of over 13,000 people. So, there’s a potential to raise a lot of money if the LSU students rally behind the cause.
Johnson responded to the post on X, stating that she’ll be stepping in to make a contribution as well. Johnson stated that she’ll match the donation made by Starkey and his wife and urged students to show up for the game.
“And you know I’m matching the donation so all students pull up,” she wrote.
Johnson received a lot of praise from fans for this thoughtful and selfless gesture. Fans appreciated her commitment to giving back.
“That’s amazing. Your mom raised you right. You’re kind, compassionate and generous,” a fan WROTE.
Several fans thanked Johnson for stepping in for the cause and showed love to her in replies. The LSU fans are known for their passion toward the program, so it’ll be interesting to see how they respond to Johnson’s message.
Kim Mulkey Praised LSU Fans
On Monday, the Tigers played the Florida Gators. There was a cold weather warning on game day, which would’ve prevented most from attending the game, but the LSU fans couldn’t care less.
They rallied behind the team and showed up at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to support their team. After the game, Kim Mulkey praised the fans.
“Y’all should do an article because I just don’t think y’all understand in women’s basketball, students don’t normally show up at the games from what I’ve seen in 40 years,” Mulkey said. ” And when I drove up here an hour before the game, and I saw that line, and it was, y’all, it was to Mike the Tiger.”
“Freezing out there. Those kids had to be standing out there for a long time. I know we gave out sweaters or shirts or something, but I mean that’s something to be said for students that will come and support your team.”
Mulkey stated that she was impressed by the fans’ commitment. Nearly 10,000 fans attended the game and watched LSU crush the Gators.
