Teary-Eyed Flau’jae Johnson Bids Emotional Goodbye to PMAC After LSU’s 2nd-Round Win vs Texas Tech

LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson was feeling all the emotions after she played one final time at home in her college career, as she will now take her talents to the league.

On Sunday, March 22, Johnson and the rest of coach Kim Mulkey‘s LSU Tigers beat coach Krista Gerlich’s Texas Tech Lady Raiders 101-47 in the second round of Regional 2 in Sacramento of the 2026 national tournament.

The game was played on the Tigers’ home court, the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was Johnson’s last game at the venue, as she is in her fourth and final year of collegiate hoops.

In a video posted by LSU Sports Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives, Harrison Valentine, on his X/Twitter, Johnson was asked for her thoughts on her farewell game at home.

“ It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever been a part of, just being embraced. I, you know, always say Louisiana really adopted me. But all those people showing out for me, like, it brought me to tears, like real tears. It was like real love. And then before the game, I didn’t have no pressure ’cause it was like, whether I score zero, whether I score 40, 50 points, like, they’re gonna love me regardless. So, just thank you to all the fans,” Johnson said.

As mentioned, Johnson is in her senior year of collegiate basketball and is expected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft in April. The Savannah, Georgia, native is looking to win her second national title in the 2026 March Madness after she helped her Louisiana-based program win it all for the first time during her freshman stint in 2023.
