Flau’jae Johnson is putting in the work that might help get her team through in the NCAA Tournament. The LSU Tigers haven’t had one of their best runs this season. They’re 27-5 overall and won just one game in the SEC Tournament.
They lost to their arch rivals, the South Carolina Gamecocks, 77-83, and were eliminated from the tournament. But the Tigers can still redeem themselves this season as they have the March Madness schedule ahead of them.
On Selection Sunday, the Tigers found out that they were the No. 2 seed in the March Madness bracket. This was the first time that LSU was a No. 2 seed since 2008. They will play their first game against the Jacksonville Dolphins at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on March 20.
The blessing in disguise in their current scenario is that the Tigers will have ample time to rest, recover, and be ready for the March Madness showdown. But Johnson is not in the mood to rest, especially when the next game is just days away.
USA Today’s Cory Diaz posted a video of the shooting guard practicing at 9:15 PM, nearly an hour after the selection show ended.
“#LSU star Flau’jae Johnson, who is gearing up for her final NCAA Tournament, is getting some work in an empty PMAC,” Diaz wrote.
Johnson doesn’t want to leave anything in the tank and go all out in her final run with the Tigers. She has been with the program since 2022 and has won multiple All-SEC honors and the 2023 NCAA title.
She is widely regarded as a lottery pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, a possible 3rd to 6th overall pick. Johnson is one of the best playmakers in the game and has elite two-way potential, high-level athleticism, and perimeter shooting.
Flau’Jae Johnson’s Coach Kim Mulkey on LSU’s Draw
The Tigers are the No. 2 seed in the Sacramento 2 region alongside some of the toughest teams in the country today. Their journey to the Final Four is going to be the toughest among all teams in the bracket.
It’s just another challenge for Kim Mulkey, and the Tigers’ head coach is prepared to lead her team against some tough opponents. When asked about the possibility of traveling across the country for her possible schedule, Mulkey responded with a song.
“Go west, young man, haven’t you been told?” she sang. “Who sang that? ‘Haven’t you been told?’ It’s a country song. Y’all let me know. Look it up. That’s what y’all do. Y’all believe everything you read anyway.”
Mulkey was referring to ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy’ by Toby Keith.
