South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley is widely considered one of the best college basketball coaches of all time. She has won three national championships and developed some of the stars who play in the WNBA today.
Every year, more players join the WNBA from Staley’s program and make up the growing number of Gamecocks alumni in the league. The tenured tactician has also never been shy in showing her support to the former South Carolina players competing in the WNBA. Staley attended the Indiana Fever versus Atlanta Dream game in Atlanta on Saturday. In a video posted by the WNBA, Staley greeted her former players.
Of the 21 players who played in the game, seven were coached by Staley. From the Fever, these included Aliyah Boston, Raven Johnson, Bree Hall, and Tyasha Harris. On the Atlanta side, Allisha Gray, Madina Okot, and Te-Hina Paopao all played for South Carolina. Fittingly, they all enjoyed post-game moments with their former mentor.
Overall, the 2026 WNBA season has 12 active players who were products of Staley’s Gamecocks, including reigning regular-season and Finals MVP A’ja Wilson.
The Atlanta Dream convincingly defeated the Indiana Fever
While Dawn Staley was presumably rooting for her players from both teams, she eventually saw the Atlanta Dream handle business against the Indiana Fever. The Dream defeated the visiting Fever 113-96, improving to 11-4. The Fever dropped to 9-7.
Atlanta was led by guard Rhyne Howard, who had a team-high 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block in 35 minutes. Among the former Gamecocks in the Dream’s roster, Allisha Gray played the most and had 22 points, five rebounds, one assist, three steals, and a block in 33 minutes.
