Dawn Staley has always been a vocal advocate for complimenting, uplifting, or even criticizing the quality of women’s basketball. She has time and again proved how much she has leaned into taking the women’s college basketball to the next level. She never shies away from praising other college basketball teams that are doing well or criticizing her own so that they can improve.
At the moment, the SEC has a lot of quality teams, such as Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks, Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers, Kim Caldwell’s Tennessee Lady Volunteers, Shea Ralph’s Vanderbilt Commodores, Vic Schaefer’s Texas Longhorns, and others. These are just some of the names that are ahead of others on the table. However, in a division like the SEC, any team can win against any other team on its day. And it won’t ever be considered that much of an upset.
Dawn Staley recently came forward and said just that. She praised the quality of the league and how the tough schedule and opponents prepare SEC teams to go deep in the tournament.
“You know, our conference, you know, it is not arguably. It is the best conference in the country. Night in and night out. So it probably won’t even be any single lost teams in our conference. It’s just too tough. It’s just really too tough. If there is, they deserve to win in our league. And also put you in the contention of national championship when you come out of the SEC,” Staley said.
