Former assistant coach of Nebraska women’s basketball, Chuck Love, allegedly admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a former player named Ashley Scoggin. The former athlete later sued the assistant coach and the university in a federal court.
The incident occurred in 2022, leading to Scoggin’s dismissal from the team. Two years later, Scoggin filed a lawsuit, claiming that her civil rights were violated in the lead-up to her dismissal from the team.
The shocking story has taken over basketball discussions around the country as it raises several questions about the people involved, as well as the university.
Love is a married man. According to his profile on the US Sports Camps website, he is married to Charmaine Love and has 4 children: Alayzia, Chuck, Cameron, and Camri. He has coached students in Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.
There’s not a lot of information available on Chuck. His private life is mostly under wraps, but the coach’s profile gives us an insight. His son, Chuck Love III, is a basketball star as well and has been rated among the top 60 recruits in the country.
“Chuck Love III has recently received offers from Oklahoma, Oregon, Mizzou, Illinois, Xavier, West Virginia, and he’s hearing from Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, and among other top division 1 schools around the country, proving that the program works and can take you to the next level,” Love’s profile reads.
Love coached Nebraska from 2016 to 2022 and was considered one of the best coaches in the country. Now, he is known for the controversy surrounding his name.
Chuck Love Initially Denied Having a Sexual Relationship
After Scoggin filed her lawsuit, seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages, Love issued a response. In his initial response, he denied ever having an inappropriate relationship with Ashley Scoggin.
“But Maren Chaloupka, Scoggin’s attorney, wrote in a March 17 filing, ‘At his February 5, 2026 deposition, Love for the first time admitted that he had a sexual relationship with Ashley’,” ESPN reported.
“Scoggin described in her original complaint how Love took a special interest in her and that the relationship turned sexual and caused Scoggin to fear retaliation if she refused to engage in it.”
Scoggin only played two seasons for the Cornhuskers before she was dismissed. She later transferred to UNLV.
