Dawn Staley and South Carolina have been absolutely terrific in the transfer portal. Recently, the Gamecocks added a couple of immensely talented players. First, Staley added Jordan Lee from Vic Schaefer’s Texas.
If one SEC rival wasn’t enough, Kim Caldwell’s Tennessee also suffered a loss to the Gamecocks. After de-committing from Tennessee, 5-star forward freshman Oliviyah Edwards also joined South Carolina.
Due to this, Tennessee legend Candace Parker became the face of the joke on her podcast with ex-South Carolina star Aliyah Boston. When Oliviyah “Big Oh” Edwards announced her decision to leave Tennessee, Parker and Boston discussed her next destination. Naturally, Parker was disappointed by the update. She said Edwards was going to be a big plus and shared that she was also present when Edwards visited Tennessee.
Parker wondered where she could land if not in Tennessee, saying, “Where’s she going to go?” Boston subtly suggested South Carolina. “She is not going to USC,” Parker continued before dismissing Boston’s suggestion, saying, “No, she is not going to South Carolina.”
This clip was made into a meme from the official X account of the shared podcast.
“Oliviyah Edwards to SOUTH CAROLINA?! OOOP this didn’t age well @Candace_Parker,” the post was captioned.
South Carolina Gamecocks’ game plan going into next season
Two years in a row, South Carolina has been on the wrong side of the national championship finals, against UConn in 2025 and UCLA in 2026. The Gamecocks have suffered defeat in the last two years. However, they look at the future with great optimism.
Dawn Staley’s South Carolina found the lottery in the transfer portal after the commitment of Oliviyah Edwards. With Raven Johnson, Madina Okot, and Ta’Niya Latson going to the WNBA, South Carolina needed to strengthen its starting 5. There were no transfer portal exits, which was a big plus for the Gamecocks.
