UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma recently shared how he thinks his graduating superstar, Azzi Fudd, will fare at the 2026 WNBA Draft. On Sunday, Feb. 22, Auriemma and his Huskies defeated coach Erin Batth’s Providence Friars 81-38 on the former’s home court, the Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, in conference play.
During his pre-game media availability, Auriemma was asked how he thinks the likes of Fudd and Serah Williams will fare in this year’s WNBA Draft. Auriemma talked about how Fudd’s perception moved from her shooting to her availability. But the tenured tactician believes that the narrative on Fudd has now shifted towards her stabilizing her body.
“I think everybody knows this is who Azzi is. I mean, I think she probably wanted to come back. I know she wanted to come back for one more year ’cause if you ask everybody around the country, ‘Hey, Azzi Fudd,’ they go, ‘Yeah, that’s a kid that used to be a really good shooter. She used to play at UConn, you know?’ And they saw her then all of a sudden at, you know, the end of last season, and now can she hold up for an entire season and do what she did for an entire season,” Auriemma explained.
“For the most part, I think they’ve seen that. You know, they’ve seen that. Where that puts her in the draft, I don’t know. I mean, it’s, you know, it’s weird the way people look at drafts. I mean, I might see one thing, they might see something completely different. I don’t know. But, we certainly had enough coaches and general managers and whoever came here or was at our road games,” he continued.
Fudd is currently in her fifth and final year of collegiate hoops under the tutelage of Auriemma and the Huskies, and she is aiming to win her second NCAA championship this season. So far, Fudd has averaged 18.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.4 steals in around 28.8 minutes per contest.
