Alyssa Latham plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens next month. The Volunteers are going to lose five-star freshman Deniya Prowl. It’s going to be a rough stretch for the Vols as several key players are looking for another program.
Latham played just over 19 minutes per game in 27 total outings. She averaged 4.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. She was a reliable two-way player who got the job done whenever the team needed her.
The Volunteers didn’t have a good run this season. They went 8-8 in the conference, 16-14 overall, and finished the season on an eight-game losing streak. They did make it to the NCAA Tournament, but lost in the first round against the NC State Wolfpack.
Kim Caldwell’s Lady Vols are likely to hit the portal hard this offseason. For Latham, it’s important to find a program where she can develop her game and make her way into the WNBA. There would be some good options for her once the portal opens. Let’s take a look at five teams that should target her.
Five Teams That Should Target Alyssa Latham
Notre Dame
Latham is the best fit for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish style of playing. She is a strong, physical forward with two-way capabilities, and she can complement Niele Ivey’s team if she gets good opportunities and enough time on the floor.
Kentucky
The Kentucky Wildcats have had a resurgence under Kenny Brooks. Even though they didn’t have a great run during the regular season, the Wildcats have made it to the Sweet 16 round. Latham, with her physicality, will fit right in with the team, and her familiarity with the SEC Conference would be an added benefit.
Michigan State
The Michigan State Spartans play the game that Latham was built for. She has the ability to defend multiple positions and can score whenever the team needs her to. There’ll always be a place for athletic forwards in Michigan State.
North Carolina
Latham is familiar with the Atlantic Coast Conference. She had a successful stint with the Syracuse Orange. Returning to ACC wouldn’t be that much of a challenge for her, and the Tar Heels are one of the best programs when it comes to utilizing versatile forwards.
Syracuse
Coming back home is always an option for Latham. But she might have additional reasons if she chooses to do so. She arguably had her best run when she was with the Syracuse Orange.
She was an ACC All-Freshman selection. She is familiar with the program, their expectation, the conference, competition, and more. It all depends on what she’s looking for at this stage in her career.
