Azzi Fudd’s prospects for the 2026 WNBA draft might have taken a fall after a dismal Final Four campaign. The UConn Huskies fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks, 48-62, and Fudd could just contribute eight points, shooting 3-15 from the field. The entire March Madness did not paint a good picture for her case, and conversations have followed on social media.
A user on Reddit highlighted that, besides No Cap Space, no reputable mock draft has predicted that Fudd will be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. Even though she remains a top pick and can significantly add to any team’s offense in the league, the Dallas Wings might decide to skip her for their top pick.
As per Layshia Clarendon of The Athletic:
“There’s no clear No. 1 pick, and I think that’s what also has all this frenzy about. The 1 through 4 is like there’s no {clear pick}… there’s not that player, there’s Azzi Fudd, who is a great shooter, playmaker, smart person. There’s Awa Fam, who could come in and change a team. Lauren Betts, who’s huge and showed us she has the ability to go out and defend, but I think people are sleeping on Olivia Miles, she’s really smart, her court vision is bar none, the way she rebounds as a guard, like she plays a complete game.”
During the NCAA postseason, the guard averaged just 14.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.6 steals per game, down from her season average of 17.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals. Besides her, Olivia Miles, Lauren Betts, and Spanish center Awa Fam have also made noise before the WNBA draft.
Considering the Wings’ demand for the team, they might choose to go with Fam or Betts and strengthen their frontcourt to provide a lob partner for Paige Bueckers. However, WNBA player Cameron Brink believes that Fudd is as good as Lauren Betts and other draft prospects.
“They’re both phenomenal players,” Cameron Brink shares her thoughts on Azzi Fudd vs Lauren Betts
WNBA player Cameron Brink featured on the Run It Back podcast and expressed her thoughts on the 2026 WNBA draft. When asked to choose between Lauren Betts and Azzi Fudd for the top pick, she said:
“They’re both phenomenal players. I’m not jealous of the people in those rooms that have to make those tough decisions.”
After the Wings, the Minnesota Lynx, and the Seattle Storm will take their picks. As per the latest updates from ESPN, Miles can go as the top pick. She was eligible as one of the top picks last season as well, but decided against turning pro. She averaged 19.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists this season and can add some serious offensive prowess to any team. The WNBA draft will take place on Monday, April 13.
