After the viral Caitlin Clark-Alyssa Thomas moment that took the internet by storm, the conversation about fan criticism has once again come to the fore. Thomas earlier told the media that she was being subjected to extreme scrutiny on social media and even received death threats from a few users. And now, Clark has also addressed the issue.
During the Fever practice session on July 3, the superstar guard talked about the league and how fans would have to be better to take the sport forward. She added that nobody should be subjected to such criticism and said:
“That goes for the opposing team we play, my teammates, my coaches, there should never be a question of character. I’ve always stood up here and said that. That’s truly what I believe, that’s how I was raised. None of that is OK, and I don’t want anyone to experience that.”
Clark also addressed the elephant in the room and gave her opinion on Thomas’ foul on her. She said:
“I know what you guys are going to ask, and I did think it was a flagrant foul.”
Clark also addressed the issues with officials and admitted that they had one of the most difficult jobs. She said that the players should be protected by the league, as there have been several such fouls “that haven’t gotten called.”
The Fever superstar’s statement surely shows her maturity while tackling such sensitive issues. Moreover, she has talked about the fans’ criticism on multiple occasions, as she has been on the receiving end of it since she entered the league.
Caitlin Clark named Eastern Conference Player of the Month
Caitlin Clark is named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for June. She averaged 21.9 points per game and 8.2 assists per game. However, the Fever could manage just six wins in the 10 games she played.
The WNBA shared the news on social media and wrote:
“Leading the way in the East ⭐”
Amid all the criticism about Clark and her shooting woes, along with her constant altercations with officials, the superstar guard has remained consistent with her performance. However, her nagging back injury has taken a toll on her, as she is currently sidelined indefinitely. Only time will tell when she will return to the roster.
