“What a Pathetic League”: WNBA Fans Blast Player Voting Turnout After Report Says Fewer Than Half the League Submitted All-Star Ballots

The 2026 WNBA All-Star lineup is out, and fans are excited for the star-studded night. However, the voting has been under scrutiny, especially after Angel Reese was snubbed from the starting lineup. And now, another controversial update about the voting has come up on social media. And fans weren’t happy to see a lack of interest from fellow players.

The WNBA All-Star starting squad is selected based on the combination of fan votes (50%), current players’ votes (25%), and votes of the media panel (25%). On ESPN, analyst Alexa Philippou reported that fewer than half of fellow players actually took part in the selection process. She wrote:

“Only about 85 of the WNBA’s roughly 180 players — a little less than half — submitted ballots for starters ahead of this month’s WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago, sources told ESPN.”

Meanwhile, a few Los Angeles Sparks players complained that they didn’t receive the ballot that is distributed by teams to players. In a statement to ESPN, the team took responsibility for the negligence and promised to improve the process. The statement read:

“Some players indicated that they didn’t receive the email or weren’t aware of it until after the voting period had closed. That’s something we take responsibility for as an organization, and we’ll have a more robust process going forward.”

Fans expressed their thoughts in the comment section, as one wrote:

    “what a pathetic league lmfao.”

Another fan was not happy with the league and wrote:

“Oh boy, the WNBA is showing yet again they’re not a serious league. Are these actually paper ballots?? They could actually use something called a computer or electronic ballot…they treat the player who makes them the most money like trash & can’t handle simple voting.”

One more user criticized the teams and the executives:

“Sounds about right with the level of incompetence with the league. And this does not reflect on the players but rather the league administration and team executives”

Another user expressed dissatisfaction with the league:

“This league is simply exhausting and really hard to get behind”

    One more fan wrote:

“This is incompetence. Get your crap together WNBA. New regime is badly needed”

The lack of effort from both players and teams shows the importance of the star-studded weekend. Given that the WNBA is currently looking for ways to market its players and the league, the players should come together to make it the most anticipated nights of the season. The All-Star stretch is scheduled for July 24-25 this season in Chicago.

“I expect to be disrespected,” Angel Reese sounds off after no WNBA All-Stars from Atlanta

Angel Reese talked to the media after the Atlanta Dream players were snubbed from the 2026 WNBA All-Star lineup. Addressing her absence from the squad, the center stated that she was more upset about her teammates. She said, via ESPN:

“I expect to be disrespected. For those two though, I think they work so hard and they put a lot of work in, and the way that they’re guarded every game and they [have to] adjust. The reason why we’re where we are is because of those two. For us not to have anyone was just a slap in the face, but they’re not going to say anything. I am.”

Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray have been two of the most efficient players in the conference and deserved to be on the list. The two players still have multiple All-Star appearances under their belts.
