As questions arise about the WNBA over the increasing number of flagrant fouls on Caitlin Clark, one Indiana lawmaker has given the league an ultimatum. Speaking on the “Don’t @ Me” podcast, Republican Representative from Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District, Marlin Stutzman, asked for immediate action to be taken following a letter to the league.
“We’re watching, and if anything else happens like this on the court, especially if it’s targeted towards Caitlin (Clark), we’re gonna pay attention because she’s a human being that’s putting her talent out on the court and her body on the court,” Stutzman said.
“If something more happens, and it becomes a physical assault situation, the authorities need to step in. There needs to be further questions, and if the WNBA doesn’t wanna reply, at some point, I can see one of the committees asking even more serious questions.”
The issue stems from Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White and guard Sophie Cunningham publicly saying Caitlin Clark was being targeted and that action needed to be taken from the league. Now, a letter to the league has made things political too.
Stutzman Had a Lot More to Say About “What’s Happening to Caitlin Clark in WNBA”
Marlin Stutzman went further into detail about what needs to change in the WNBA with regards to the treatment of Caitlin Clark.
“I’ve played and coached basketball. What’s happening in the WNBA to Caitlin Clark is not normal. The letter I joined with my colleagues to commissioner Cathy Engelbert demands answers for what the league is doing to address this. The WNBA needs to be fair and safe for all its players,” he wrote on X.
It remains to be seen where things go from here, but with political pressure now being applied, perhaps the treatment of Caitlin Clark will see a change.
