“What Sophie Cunningham Wants, She Gets”: Fever Fans Rally Behind Guard After Dana White Says She Requested to Become UFC Ring Girl

Sophie Cunningham landed the role of ring girl eight minutes before UFC 329 on Saturday. Cunningham’s cameo surprised many as it was unplanned. The company’s president, Dana White, revealed the Indiana Fever guard asked him if she could get the gig, and he approved it without a second thought.

“(She got the job) about eight minutes before she did it,” White said in his post-event press conference. “I love Sophie Cunningham, we’ve created a relationship when she was here tonight. When she walked in, she goes, ‘Oh, I wanna walk around that (ring),’ I said, ‘then you’re gonna walk around it.'”

Cunningham isn’t one of the stars on the court for the Fever, but her popularity since joining the franchise has skyrocketed. She continues to feed off it, receiving immense support from the fans. After White granted her wish on Saturday, Fever fans rallied behind the veteran for landing the role.

What @sophaller Sophie Cunningham wants, Sophie gets,” one fan said.

    More reactions followed.

Sophie Cunningham was in Las Vegas for the Fever’s matchup against the Aces on Sunday. Indiana is in the middle of a four-game road trip and is visiting “Sin City” for the second time in a week after the July 5 game. Cunningham and the Fever won that clash 84-68 against the Aces, who were without A’ja Wilson.

Sophie Cunningham gets her PE shoe as her brand continues to grow off the court

Sophie Cunningham’s brand continues to grow off the court. If there’s anyone who has maximized the popularity that comes with playing alongside Caitlin Clark on the Fever, it’s her.

A day before her UFC cameo, it was announced that Cunningham would get her Adidas PE shoes, “Crazy Energy,” which would release on July 24. They’ll be priced at $120 a pair. It’s rare, given her role on the court, as she isn’t among the bona fide All-Stars.

Cunningham made a name for herself last year after owning the label of Clark’s enforcer. Since then, her social media following has entered the millions on most platforms and her endorsement deals have risen.

Along with Adidas, Cunningham’s other major partnerships include Ring, Arby’s and Quest Nutrition. Before her cameo at UFC 329, Cunningham featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in April.
