Where Will Tyler Alexander Commit? Predicting the Landing Spot for the 4-Star DL

Tyler Alexander, a four-star recruit out of Wellington, Florida, is being chased by several schools looking to add the imposing defensive lineman to their roster. While the On3 (Rivals Industry) and 247Sports composite rankings and ESPN have him as a four-star, that could be a bit of an inflated appreciation, as the regular 247Sports and Rivals.com ratings have him as a three-star recruit.

According to 247Sports, Tyler Alexander is the 57th-best defensive lineman and 37th-best overall player in the state of Florida for the class of 2027. Among the schools chasing Tyler Alexander are the Florida Gators, Texas Longhorns, Colorado Buffaloes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Georgia Bulldogs.

The likeliest place Tyler Alexander will end up is Gainesville, with the Gators. Florida has a definite head start, being the flagship school of its native state. This is an opinion shared by Rivals.com and On3. According to them, if Tyler Alexander doesn’t commit to the Florida Gators, he will end up with the Georgia Bulldogs, although the former school is by far the favorite to get his services.

Florida Jon Sumrall talks about what he would’ve done had Florida not allowed him to coach the Tulane Green Wave during the CFP

During a Tuesday press conference, newly minted Florida head coach Jon Sumrall seemingly took a shot at a fellow SEC coach. When asked if he would’ve left Tulane even if the Gators didn’t allow him to coach the Tulane Green Wave through the College Football Playoff at the end of last season.

In that case, he just wouldn’t have left Tulane, Sumrall said:

“I would have stayed at Tulane and not taken any other job,” Sumrall said Tuesday in a brief news conference here at the Southeastern Conference spring meeting. “I was not going to leave a team playing for a championship to go coach another team. That’s not in my DNA.

“So, if Florida — or any other school that wanted to offer me their head coaching job — was going to tell me the terms they needed to be on, the answer for me was, ‘I can’t take the job. Sorry, I just can’t do it.’ Because those kids had given me just too much, and it wouldn’t have been fair.”

This looks like a shot at someone else who was in contention for the Florida job. New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, who famously left the Ole Miss Rebels to hang out to dry as they were about to play their first-ever CFP game.

Sumrall did admit that at the time it was difficult to hold both jobs at the same time, and that it was possibly the stupidest thing he had ever done.
