Before the start of every college football campaign, programs are often seen scrambling to lure the best high school prospects. However, it looks like the SMU Mustangs have opted for a different route with one of their recruits, as a professional baseball player is set to join their ranks.
Once a first-round pick in MLB, Jordyn Adams is now set to represent the SMU Mustangs in football. According to On3, he plans to reprise his role as a wide receiver, a position that he held throughout his multi-sport high school career.
Fans online naturally had a lot to say, with mixed reactions on X:
“You know how insane this is 😂😂 has to be stopped,” said a fan.
“I can’t wait for LeBron to retire and play college basketball,” wrote a fan.
“Unc gonna dominate the ACC,” stated a fan.
“No beef with this. Nothing new here. Happens all the time,” commented a fan.
“Betting on yourself takes courage. Walking away from professional baseball at 26 to chase another dream says a lot about Jordyn Adams’ mindset. Most people never take that kind of risk”, wrote another fan.
“What are we even doing man? A 19 year old is not going to be able to compete with a 26 year old,” stated another fan.
“Can we PLEASE put age caps in college sports,” said another fan.
“Wow I remember him. Wish he would’ve panned out in baseball,” commented another fan.
Despite receiving a lot of interest from some of the best CFB programs in the country right after high school, a contract from the Los Angeles Angels reportedly worth more than $3 million saw Adams choose baseball over football. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft.
