Tristan Dare Transfer Portal: Top 3 Landing Spots After Michigan Decommitment

Offensive lineman Tristan Dare committed to the Michigan Wolverines in August 2025. Although Dare committed to the program months before Kyle Whittingham joined, he was slated to be one of the biggest names on Whittingham’s roster.

However, Dare has now decommitted from Michigan, and he is reopening recruitment. Former Wolverines offensive line coach Grant Newsome was one of the biggest reasons why Dare committed to the program in August last year.

A lot has changed within the Wolverines program over the last few months. One of the major changes that likely influenced Dare’s recent decision was Newsome leaving Michigan to join the New York Giants.

Dare holds offers from 35 programs, including Oklahoma, Stanford, Washington, and TCU. As one of the top players in his class, Dare has plenty of options to choose from.

    Stanford

Dare received an offer from Stanford in March 2025. Stanford is widely considered a top contender due to Dare’s high academic profile and their consistent pursuit of him. They offer the “best of both worlds” for a student-athlete like Dare, and his style of play fits their physical, pro-style offensive line tradition.

    Ohio State

Before he committed to Michigan, the Buckeyes were his “other” top choice. Now that he is back on the market, Ohio State is expected to re-engage heavily. They were one of the first elite programs to approach him.

    Oklahoma

Oklahoma is a major player in this race and was one of the finalists Dare considered before his initial commitment to Michigan in August 2025. Even while Dare was committed to Michigan, Oklahoma’s staff continued to recruit him.

They have maintained a good relationship with him over the last few months and are one of the frontrunners now that he’s back on the market.

Tristan Dare Trusted Michigan After Kyle Whittingham Hiring

Even after Michigan hired a new head coach, Dare said that he hadn’t thought about any other program. He raved about Whittingham’s reputation in Utah and sounded like he was going to keep his commitment.

“I haven’t thought about schools outside of Michigan,” he said. “Coach Switzer has been in contact, and he’ll come out to see me in the future. Coach B at Oklahoma is just three hours up the road, and they’ll come down to see me, and I’ll get to see him as well. They’ve really respected my commitment to Michigan, and I’ve respected that as well.”

With Dare decommitting, Whittingham will have to find his replacement. And he has brought some players with him who will provide balance to the program.
