Trinidad Chambliss Eligibility Case: Ole Miss QB Hits Back At NCAA Seeking Damages From NIL Loss

Trinidad Chambliss is locked in a legal battle with the NCAA.

In November 2025, the Ole Miss Rebels filed a waiver request with the NCAA, asking them to grant Chambliss a sixth year of eligibility since he did not play in his sophomore season due to respiratory issues. The NCAA initially denied the request; however, multiple appeals were filed, and in February 2026, Chambliss was granted a sixth year of college eligibility.

Now, he is seeking damages for his loss of NIL money from EA Sports and other potential brand deals due to the initial rejection of his request. In a new court filing, Chambliss’ lawyers argued that EA Sports withdrew from negotiations due to the risk that the quarterback may not be able to play during the 2026-27 season.

“Trinidad is entitled to recover and hereby requests an award of extra contractual damages of and from the NCAA, including but not limited to: All damages arising from Trinidad’s loss of NIL compensation from EA Sports and loss of any other potential NIL opportunities as a result of the NCAA’s bad faith denial of Ole Miss’s request for an extension of eligibility waiver for Trinidad and/or from the NCAA’s continued opposition to Trinidad’s eligibility…” the new court filing read.

Chambliss started his college football career with the Ferris State Bulldogs in 2021. He redshirted his first year at Ferris State and did not play his sophomore season (2022) due to persistent respiratory issues.

Chambliss’ first college football experience came in 2023 when he played eight games for the Bulldogs. After a complete 2024 season, he decided to enter the transfer portal and joined the Ole Miss Rebels.

The quarterback served as a backup in the 2025 season. After their starting QB, Austin Simmons, got injured, Chambliss took over and finished the season with 3937 yards for 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
