Jon Sumrall had to endure a bit of a media storm after he seemingly lost his cool at the SEC media days when a reporter’s phone began ringing during his time on the mic. Sumrall made it clear that if the reporter were a part of his team, he wouldn’t be in the room. However, Sumrall has since clarified that he was only joking.
“You are right Tom. I wasn’t serious. I was joking,” Sumrall wrote in response to a tweet from Tom Crean highlighting the incident.
Tom Crean later replied to Sumrall’s comment, saying he “sold it well” if it were a joke.
“I felt for the person whose phone went off, but I stand corrected
@CoachJonSumrall and wish you the best,” he tweeted.
What Did Jon Sumrall Say After the Reporter’s Phone Began Ringing?
Jon Sumrall appeared upset at the ringing phone interrupting him, and his response seemed to shake the room a little bit despite some early laughter.
“You’re lucky I’m not gonna throw this podium. I would say, ‘Who is that?’ but I’m not going to embarrass anybody,” Sumrall said at the SEC media days event.
Sumrall and Florida will look to finish training on a high before they kick off their new campaign.
