‘This Is a Ridiculous Gesture’ ‘PR Stunt’: Fans React As Joey McGuire Breaks Silence on Steve Sarkisian’s Recent Dig at Texas Tech

Steve Sarkisian recently took an indirect shot at the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ schedule for the 2026 college football season and said that there is a team in his state that plays in another conference that has the kind of games that he would probably go undefeated with even if he played with his twos or threes, and added that the team in question would probably make the playoffs this year.
Sarkisian also caught a lot of flak for his comments from various fans and analysts, including Steve Sarkisian and Stephen A. Smith.

According to the Athletic’s Chris Vanini, McGuire responded to Sarkisian’s comments and said he would love to play against Texas in Week 1 and said that if the game can’t be played in Lubbock, Texas, the matchup can take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

“This is a ridiculous gesture. If @TexasTechFB wanted to play difficult OOC opponents, you know what they would have done? The would have scheduled difficult OOC opponents. Instead they scheduled Abilene Christian, Oregon St & Sam Houston. Actions speak louder than words.” one fan reacted.

“Texas is playing Ohio State in week two and already has one of, if not the toughest schedules in the county. Why would they play the team Tom Brady recently called “a glorified community college”. The time to make schedules isn’t 100 days before the season. 🤡.” Another fan wrote.

“He’s doing this 3 months out because he knows it won’t happen. Just gives him cover to say Texas ducked them.“ another fan pointed out.

“Are they going to cancel all their cupcake games going forward then and only play Bluebloods like THE University of Texas?” another fan asked.

”What a joke. They’ve had how long to put together a respectable schedule and they wait until now? This is a PR stunt. We play Ohio State week 2 while they play the Texas School for the Blind. We play 6 top 25 teams and they play none. GTFOH.” Another fan said.

”Of course they would hahahaha get in line clown.” Another fan added.

Steve Sarkisian Takes a Shot at Pete Golding’s Ole Miss

Steve Sarkisian recently took a bold shot at Pete Golding’s Ole Miss while heaping praise on Texas’ rule of only taking 50% of a player’s academic credit hours in a transfer case.
The Texas head coach explained that it doesn’t matter if the player was just a semester away from graduation; they would have to go all the way back to 50% if they want to play there and want a degree.

Sarkisian then took a jab at Ole Miss, and they can take a player regardless of all that.

“All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.”

The Longhorns’ head coach later apologised for his comments and said that was a “poor choice of words” on his part.
