Patrick Mahomes’ top tight end appears to be going the Tom Brady route, as Travis Kelce added himself as a part-owner of a sports franchise in preparation for the next stage of his life. Kelce grew up in Cleveland and has only become more nostalgic about his hometown in recent years. The tight end cemented his love for his hometown by buying a stake in the Cleveland Guardians.
A Wednesday report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan on X broke the news, and it also appeared to be the way Mahomes found out about the substantial financial move. Mahomes posted a message to Kelce on X, including a deep-cut video clip from years prior. The video clip showed Kelce throwing out the first pitch at a Cleveland Guardians game.
Whether intentionally or not, Mahomes reminded Kelce of the disastrous throw that went straight into the ground.
“Congrats!” Mahomes posted.
Kelce’s stake in the $1.66 billion MLB franchise (Forbes) might be compared to Brady’s post-NFL move to be a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, but there are some differences. Namely, Kelce chose a franchise close to home in a different sport before retirement, while Brady was brought aboard the Raiders’ NFL franchise after retirement.
Unless Kelce joins the MLB commentating world as a top analyst, the controversy with this one should remain at a minimum.
Patrick Mahomes Rejoins Travis Kelce on Practice Field
Patrick Mahomes decided to post on social media, but he didn’t need to if he wanted to communicate with Travis Kelce. That’s because Mahomes was spotted at his first OTAs practice after tearing his ACL in the 2025 season.
Chiefs media showed off the quarterback, knee brace and all, in a video posted on X on Tuesday.
With Mahomes back on the field months before the regular season, some fans have breathed a sigh of relief. However, others have expressed concern that returning to action too soon could lead to a disastrous result and a setback the Chiefs can’t afford.
Either way, it appears Andy Reid and Mahomes have made their decision, and Kelce will only be able to hope that his quarterback is ready to turn things up a notch.
