Venus Williams and Serena Williams dominated women’s tennis from the late 1990s to the 2010s. The two are not only multiple-time singles Grand Slams champion, together they have won 14 women’s doubles major titles.
Even though both are over 40 years old, fans are still excited if there will be a potential return as doubles players. Venus has already returned to women’s tennis after a long hiatus as she made her mark in the DC Open. However, Serena last played in the third round of the 2022 US Open, but there are rumors she could make a return this year, though nothing is confirmed.
Recently, following her Round of 32 loss in Austin, Venus was asked if there is a possibility of a doubles reunion with her sister in the near future. The seven-time Grand Slam champion first felt it would be amazing, but raised questions about whether her work ethic is good enough to compete on the tour.
“Oh man, wouldn’t that be cool? I never see her practicing though,” she said. “But I don’t know where she’s doing it. So I think to come back you have to get out there. So we’ll see if she can put some work in. I mean, of course playing for exercise is nice. Yeah, there’s a lot of hours that goes into it. So we’ll see what happens.”
Though Serena Williams hasn’t confirmed her potential comeback, the fact that she has been reinstated on the tour after entering the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) anti-doping testing pool in December has given fans enough reason to believe that the 23-time Grand Slam champion could return.
Alycia Parks Sends Major Props to Serena Williams After Recent Practice
If all Venus Williams wants to know if Serena Williams still has it in her, then we’ve got Alycia Parks’ testimony to sell.
Parks was recently engaged in a productive practice session with Serena. Parks, who considers the 23-time Grand Slam champion her mentor, revealed that Serena appears to be in good shape and can still have the ability to take down anyone.
“I actually practiced with her last Monday. And I messaged her yesterday,” Parks told Tennis Majorss. “She’s definitely a good mentor to me and she’s helped me a lot, especially in my practices. She is in great shape. So I think she would kill it on tour.”
So if there was any doubt in Venus’ mind about whether Serena is competitive enough, Parks’ remarks should be enough.
