Martina Navratilova Breathes a Sigh of Relief After Carlos Alcaraz’s Injury Update Ahead Of US Open Series

Carlos Alcaraz received a major update on his wrist injury, and tennis legend Martina Navratilova has expressed relief on learning that the Spaniard has made great progress in his recovery ahead of the US Open. The 18-time Grand Slam champion has been an admirer of the Spaniard’s game.

On Tuesday, Spanish media outlet La Verdad provided an update on Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist injury, noting that he had had his wrist checked by a doctor, who was satisfied with the Spaniard’s progress over the last three months.

After several deliberations, the medical team has reportedly concluded that Alcaraz’s recovery has reached the final stages, with the wrist completely healed, and that he has a chance of receiving medical clearance soon ahead of the US Open.

Reacting to the breaking news, Navratilova took to her X account and wrote:

    “Great news indeed!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼”

Alcaraz had suffered a severe injury to his right wrist in April and had to retire from the Barcelona Open. Since then, the Spaniard has been out of action and sporadically shared recovery updates on his social media accounts.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Expected Schedule Before the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz’s name was not mentioned in the entry list for the Canadian Open, which got many concerned, thinking that the Spaniard might have faced a new injury or had a setback in his recovery. His team has, however, made it clear that they have withdrawn from the Masters 1000 tournament after careful deliberation to provide more recovery time for the Spaniard so he can recover in time for the US Open.

The Cincinnati Open is the tournament the Spaniard is reportedly expected to play next, which starts in mid-August. If Alcaraz wants to return to Ohio, he would make a comeback as the defending champion, having won it last year.

The big question now is whether the North-American hardcourt swing will be enough for Alcaraz to build the fitness needed to defend his New York Slam title after his lengthy injury layoff.
