Serena Williams’s Ex-Hitting Partner Expresses Serious Concerns Over American’s Potential Tennis Comeback: Here’s Why

Tennis legend Serena Williams’ potential return to the sport has been a hot topic since the 23-time Grand Slam champion entered the players’ drug-testing pool last year. According to calculations by multiple analysts, Williams will be eligible to play in a tournament starting February 22, marking 6 months since her entry into the anti-doping pool.

Her former hitting partner, Sascha Bajin, has shared his unfiltered opinion on a potential Williams comeback this year and what concerns him most about her return to professional tennis.

“My first initial thought was let’s f*****g go. Oh my god, I’m so excited. I’m missing Serena. I miss seeing her on tour. I miss seeing her play. Obviously, not so much against us, but I miss watching her play. It just brings a lot of attention to the sport. She’s a very polarizing figure. I love everything about her on court, from the outfits to the emotions. So yeah, just obviously, as you guys can tell, I’m a fan and always will be,” Bajin said.

“Whatever it is, singles, doubles, mixed, I don’t care. As soon as Serena steps on court, I am tuning in. Now, my next thought is the concerns: Oh boy, I hope she doesn’t draw. I hope she doesn’t draw some of these girls who can really go out and beat her… I hope you guys don’t take this the wrong way, please, this comes from a place of love and care for her,” he added.

“You don’t want to see her lose to somebody who kind of doesn’t deserve to have that win on her record. And that’s also no disrespect, please, to some of these girls who are competing right now. I hope you know what I mean. So that’s not something I want because now she’s been out of competition for three and a half, almost four years, I believe,” Bajin concluded.

Bajin Pinpoints the Only Reason He Believes in Serena Williams’ Potential Comeback

Further in the video, Bajin delves into one thing he can pinpoint as a potential for Williams’ return to the sport. It is not money by any means, as the Serbian-born German tennis coach believes the American has plenty in her kitty. The driving force behind the comeback could be entirely different.

The only reason I can pinpoint is that competitor inside her is burning. She feels like she has something to prove to herself. So my only thing is: what makes these goats so good, and what makes these players so great, is that they always believed they were the best. Well, you have to believe you are the best before becoming the best,” Bajin said.

“But I just hope, and again, this is coming from a place of love, I hope that that isn’t false confidence right now, and I hope that she has good people around her that protect her from herself if she has to. I know that she has been practicing with a couple of WTA players in Florida. So that’s something good,” he added.

While many speculate that Williams could make a wild comeback at the ATX Open, which starts on February 23, and where her elder sister Venus has already been given a surprise singles wildcard, only Williams can know for sure what her next course of action is going to be as the tennis fraternity remains on the edge of their seats.
