Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, has expressed confusion after receiving backlash for investing in the surveillance tech company Flock Safety. The co-founder of Reddit was high in praise of the company’s safety designs to combat crime and has called the reaction “odd behavior.”
Flock Safety is a technology company that manufactures surveillance cameras used for combating crime. The cameras are mostly installed on roads and parking lots and throughout neighborhoods, recording data such as vehicle license plate numbers and storing that data so that later authorized personnel from law enforcement could use it to investigate any crime.
Many online users have become wary of the company’s use of the collected data and have raised concerns about mass surveillance and digital privacy.
Amid the growing debate on privacy, critics have questioned Ohanian’s involvement with the tech firm, saying:

“Trying to cancel me on Reddit for leading seed round of @Flock_Safety ? Odd behavior.”
The co-founder of Reddit said that he uses the services of Flock Safety, and its services have greatly helped them stay crime-free:
“I’ve had them installed on my property for 5+ years now and it’s helped keep my family safe and helped catch at least one set of criminals who robbed neighbors’ homes.”
Ohanian, along with his venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six, was among the early investors in the rising security company and led Flock Safety’s first seed round.
Recently, the Los Angeles Police Department, which was earlier using the services of Flock Safety, refused to renew its contract with the firm. It has requested the company to come out with full transparency about the whereabouts of the data captured by all Flock cameras across its jurisdiction.
Flock Safety has, however, refuted any data mismanagement and has firmly maintained that its systems have what it takes to solve crimes and keep communities safe.

As Serena Williams got busy strolling the Disney Adventure World of Paris with daughter Adria, Alexis Ohanian ventured off to an international getaway to Japan, where he and the family’s eldest daughter, Olympia, hung around the bustling streets of Tokyo.
The father-daughter clicked candid photos, sharing glimpses of their busy trip in Tokyo. Ohanian had later posted the photos on his social media account.
Serena Williams led a complete solo mode with her daughter, Adria, where the duo enjoyed a pony ride and took photos with Disney character actors.
