Emma Raducanu’s coach, Mark Petchey, shared his thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz’s future at the Miami Open. He issued a major statement shortly after the World No. 1’s shocking upset at the tournament.
Alcaraz opened his Miami Open campaign on March 21 against Joao Fonseca. After defeating the Brazilian, he met Sebastian Korda in the third round on March 23. Here, the Spaniard faced a shocking upset after the American won the first and the tie-breaker third set of the tournament, claiming a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory. Shortly after his upset in Miami, the Big T podcast hosts, Mark Petchey and Andrea Petkovic, sat for a conversation, where the former analyzed the Spaniard’s game. He issued an ominous message about his future at the Miami Open, stating that he might never win the tournament due to the tennis calendar.
“So that was that was exciting and again I think that you know the tennis season is I think it’s quite difficult and I think you we forget how young Carlos is and coming off doing the career slam the youngest man to ever do that to then go into the Middle East to then obviously play in Indian Wells, these tournaments are so long now that there’s a long time for you to stay in the game, honestly, obviously he’s won here before, Carlos it may be that this is the tournament he never wins again because of just because of the way the calendar is,” Petchey said.
Before the Miami Open, Alcaraz lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals at Indian Wells on March 15.
