Coco Gauff Sends Message To Taylor Townsend After She Recovers From Austin Heartbreak With Stunning Comeback

Coco Gauff congratulated fellow American tennis star Taylor Townsend following her accomplishments in Austin. Townsend reached her first career WTA singles final at the ATX Open, as she advanced through the semifinals with a comeback victory against Ashlyn Krueger.

In the final, she faced Payton Stearns, who defeated Townsend 7-6, 7-5. However, Townsend won the doubles title with Storm Hunter, defeating Eudice Chong and Liang En-shuo in the final.

On Tuesday, Townsend took to Instagram and shared her ATX Open achievements, a runner-up singles trophy and a doubles trophy. She captioned the post:

“Doubled down just to double up🏆🏆 Thank you Austin! You will forever have my heart🫶🏾✨”

Under the comments section, Gauff commented:

    “Congratulations.”

Gauff didn’t participate in Austin after the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she was defeated in the semifinals by Elina Svitolina, the same opponent who handed her her Australian Open quarterfinals heartbreak.

Taylor Townsend’s ATX Open Semifinal Win Comments Didn’t Sit Well With Andy Roddick

Taylor Townsend is not known for her achievements in women’s singles as much as she is known for her doubles game. However, she set the record straight by managing to reach her first career semifinals in Austin. In the post-game interview, she said:

“Everyone that’s talked s—, they gotta eat their words. I’m still standing, I’m still here, I’m not going anywhere,” said Townsend. “And it’s only just gonna keep getting better from here, so I hope that they buckle up.”

Despite what Townsend believes the perception people have regarding her singles game, former US Open champion Andy Roddick doesn’t believe that anyone was talking in a negative sense about Townsend in the first place.

“That’s right, don’t talk s— about Taylor, she says!” said Roddick. “I mean, nobody has really talked that much s—, everyone has pretty much only been cheering for her for a while. It was 15 years ago, and I can tell you who it was from and why it was happening. But everyone likes her now, she’s still carrying that, she’s kind of forcing it a little bit, because everyone likes her now. You can go find heat anywhere on the internet…”

Roddick suggested that while Townsend might have faced the heat for her comments in the past, people haven’t continued with their animosity towards her.
