Big Snub For Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner as John Isner Places Big Faith On Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells

Former ATP pro John Isner has chosen Novak Djokovic over top seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as the potential winner of the Indian Wells Open. In a discussion about their probable picks in men’s and women’s singles for Indian Wells, Isner was joined by fellow American tennis pros Sam Querrey, Jack Sock, and Steve Johnson on the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast.

Isner shared his choice last after hearing the picks from the other three. The 2018 Wimbledon finalist quickly rallied behind Djokovic, noting that Djokovic was calm and collected ahead of the event. Furthermore, he added that the tournament schedule will not be physically taxing for the Serb.

“I am going with the GOAT. Give me Novak to take the title. He’s there. He’s in California. He has been practicing in LA. He was at the Lakers game last night. Not a worry in the world, right? He’s not worried about this event,” Isner said.

“It’s, give me Novak. Two out of three, it could be done. A lot of days off in these tournaments, as you mentioned. It’s a 12-day event. It’s not going to be physically taxing for him,” he added.

On the other end, Isner backed Jessica Pegula to have a good run at Indian Wells, citing her recent form on the WTA tour and sheer confidence coursing through her veins. “Give me Jess [Pegula]. I don’t think the service is so great for her. I think she prefers maybe a little lower bouncing, faster surfaces, but she has got a lot of confidence. So, I like Jess there,” Isner said.

Novak Djokovic Has Been Placed in the Same Half as Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells

Alcaraz and Djokovic have been placed in the top half of the draw in the Indian Wells Open. The two will clash once again, as they are on a collision course in the semifinals of the Masters 1000 event in California. The Spaniard had defeated the veteran Serb in the Australian Open final last month, thereby denying him a record 11th title in Melbourne.

Djokovic would look to avenge the loss if he reaches the semifinals of the Indian Wells Open and Alcaraz does the same. The Serb could face Taylor Fritz and defending champion Jack Draper on the path towards a probable semifinal clash against the Spaniard. As for Alcaraz, he could potentially face his cousin Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot on his way to the semifinals at Indian Wells.
