Billy Napier’s time at Florida ended in a rather unfortunate way, with it becoming the first program where he was fired. After having some time to reflect on his few seasons at the Gators, he believes certain elements led to his downfall. Fans, however, don’t seem to unanimously agree with Napier.
“I think that we really struggled to manage the workload that came with NIL, that came with the portal,” Napier said to On3.
“I think in general there, the work continued to be loaded up in terms of my responsibility to our team and to our entire organization. So, for me, in general, if I can sum it up, I would say the ability to delegate and hire exceptional people in certain areas and hand over more responsibility to those guys and empower them to do their job at a high level.”
However, fans haven’t taken too kindly to the comments, adopting a harsher stance on his Florida troubles.
Some were a bit more sympathetic towards Napier as he joins James Madison University.
Billy Napier Did Admit He Was Stubborn
To Napier’s credit, he did admit to being stubborn at Florida, insisting on conducting play-calling when it could have been delegated and allowed him to focus on other telling matters at the Gators.
“I think that I probably was a little stubborn,” Napier said when talking about handling play-calling.
“I think that that took away from the level of detail that I had provided in a lot of those areas in the past. And then once my back was against the wall, I wasn’t confident or comfortable enough to hand that over to somebody else.”
