ESPN host Stephen A. Smith has been very vocal about politics as of late, and he may be entering the political arena soon enough. The “First Take” host has been teasing that he is considering to run as president of the United States, and it has raised some eyebrows as many do not consider him as a serious candidate that could challenge neither the Democrats nor the Republicans.
A new report from New York Times and Forbes contributor and basketball insider Adam Zagoria, however, states that Stephan A. Smith is nearing a presidential run in 2028.
For now, this is still speculation, but the ESPN host has been considering a presidential run for quite some time now. Back in April, in an interview with ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl on “This Week,” Smith noted that he has been considering a run for the White House.
“I have no choice, because I’ve had elected officials, and I’m not going to give their names, elected officials coming up to me. I’ve had folks who are pundits come up to me. I’ve had folks that got a lot of money, billionaires and others that have talked to me about exploratory committees and things of that nature. I’m not a politician. I’ve never had a desire to be a politician,” he said.
Smith noted that he is leaving the door open for a run during that interview, but he did not outright announce that he will be running just yet. The host had been a vocal critic of both parties and has been quite vocal against President Donald Trump as of late despite seeking to appease him earlier in the Trump presidency.
Stephen A. Smith Continues To Tease Presidential Run and Reveals His Party
Stephen A. Smith has been saying that he does not want to run while also saying he is not ruling it out for months now, and the latest came on Sunday when he spoke with CBS News‘ Robert Costa during “CBS Sunday Morning.”
Smith emphasized that he has “no desire to run for office” but added that he is “not ruling it out because I’d love to be on the debate stages against some of these individuals that think they’re better suited to run the country.” He would then go on to reveal that he plans to run as a Democrat.
