The NCAA’s rules on eligibility have constantly been slammed for inconsistencies, with some players turning pro and being allowed back in college to players being allowed to play for six or more years while others were not even allowed to play a fourth year.
This is what happened to Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Owen Heinecke, who was denied a fourth year of eligibility due to his previously playing three games of lacrosse with Ohio State.
The NCAA ruling got fans up in arms as many complained about the perceived inconsistencies and even the perceived hypocrisies by the ruling collegiate sports body over a player’s eligibility. Many of them made their voices heard:
“Absolutely ridiculous,” one person said.
“SUE. THE. NCAA. Thank you Jim.” another X user added.
“He really does stand for everything that is pure and great about college football, and he’s an incredible young man. Just hate it for him!! Holding out hope for the appeal, but he has been doing super well at the Senior Bowl this week 🙏💔🏈” one Sooners fan noted.
“The crazy part is that he wants to play another year to cement his name as a Sooner and it’s not about how much he can make via NIL. Joke of a decision when kids are getting their 7th and 8th years. @NCAA,” one fan said while tagging the NCAA.
“There is no rhyme or reason to anything the do. It’s disgusting.,” another Sooners fan stated.
“Why not sue them? Seems to work for others. 🤷🏻♂️,” one person suggested.
