‘I Hate To See It’: President Donald Trump Minces No Words on State of College Football in Latest Rant With Josh Pate

US President Donald Trump recently interviewed with college football analyst Josh Pate, where he talked in lenght on all things going wrong in the sport.

Pate started with a shared love of college football, as Trump even attended the National Championship game between Indiana and Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. With so much changing in the current landscape of football, Pate wanted to learn Trump’s views on the same.

Trump doesn’t like the current state of college football as he said:

“Well, it’s too bad. I hate to see it. And I hate to see a lot of things in football and a lot of things in other events.”

He particularly talked about the current kickoff rule followed in the NFL. The rules were changed by the NFL to reduce injuries.

“When I look at the kickoff, I hate to see this new kickoff rule they have,” Trump said. “It takes the glamour, the glory, it takes everything out of the game. When I watch a kickoff, that’s a big event. That’s the opening of a game, and that’s important. It’s an important thing. And then they do this. I’m not even sure anybody understands what they’re even doing. They kick it short of the end zone now, you have to kick it short of the end zone. And somebody said they want to see more runbacks. Actually, they want to see much fewer runbacks.

Trump also mentions that he doesn’t want college football to apply the same rule.

“But I think it’s very bad for the NFL, and I hope college football doesn’t do that,” the president added.

As per the new rules, the kicking team is required to line up closer to the receiving team’s 40-yard line. Moreover, there should be one or two returners in a designated “landing zone.” Players are not allowed to move until the ball is caught or has landed. The NFL made these changes to encourage an increase in returns and reduce high-speed collisions.

Donald Trump’s Secret Reason For Attending Games

Donald Trump attended the National Championship game this year but didn’t travel to the Bay Area for Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium. Trump said the game was too far from where he was, but some believe the US President avoided the game because he had criticized the NFL for assigning the halftime show to Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny.

During his conversation with Pate, Trump made it known that he only attends those games where he has a particular liking towards a team, coach, or player.

“I like certain people, players, and teams,” Trump said.

It remains to be seen if Trump attends the best showcase of NFL and college football in the 2026 editions.
