Jon Sumrall Gets Major Florida Football Recruiting Win As 3-Star Prospect Snubs Rivals Florida State

Florida’s impressive 2027 recruiting class continues to gain momentum this week as Jon Sumrall and the Gators secured a commitment from Georgia’s Kamarion Johnson. The three-star prospect chose Florida over Florida State, Cincinnati, and several other programs, giving the Gators another key addition to a class that is already among the nation’s best.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound star from Georgia is ranked among the top athletes in the country by Rivals.

He initially committed to NC State earlier this year before reopening his recruitment in April. And soon Florida entered the picture and climbed to the top of his list.

The Gators’ coaching staff wasted no time establishing a strong connection with the star.

Speaking about his decision, Johnson highlighted the relationships built during the recruiting process as a major factor.

“I felt love from Coach Collins,” Johnson said. “He’s such a great coach and I want to be coached by him.”

Jon Sumrall Continues Building Stronger Lineup

Sumrall was hired by Florida on November 30, marking his second season with the Gators, and the impact on recruiting is already strong.

Johnson developed a strong impression of the program’s culture, thanks to Sumrall.

“The brotherhood stands out the most,” Johnson explained. “The coaches, the players and the fans. It can be a great program, and the coaches and the players are working to make it the best place it can be.”

The recruit also pointed to Sumrall’s involvement with his family as something that resonated throughout the process.

According to Johnson, receiving a Mother’s Day message from the Florida head coach left a lasting impression and reinforced the feeling that the Gators were invested in him.

“Growing up, I didn’t know the head coach did stuff like this. It feels good. It was kind of surprising because I just thought other coaches recruit, but I didn’t know the head coaches recruit as well. The head coach constantly texting me and my family to make sure we’re good is a great feeling,” Johnson said about Sumrall.

Johnson joins a team that features multiple strong prospects and is in the top 5 ranked classes nationally,

The addition of Johnson provides another athletic defensive piece for the future while showcasing Florida’s growing ability to win recruiting battles against major rivals.

For Sumrall, landing Johnson over Florida State is another statement victory.
