Eileen Gu Unhappy With Scheduling at 2026 Winter Olympics

Coming into the finals on Monday, Eileen Gu has expressed her disappointment with organizers at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). This is because her Big Air Final overlaps with the first three-hour halfpipe training sessions. Since she would be competing in the Big Air Final, she won’t be able to participate in the first of three halfpipe training sessions.

“I’m disappointed in FIS,” Gu said. “I think the Olympics should epitomize aspiration, and I think being able to do something that’s beyond the ordinary should be celebrated instead of punished.”

Gu wanted as much practice as other athletes in the halfpipe. However, FIS said they can’t make the change for just one athlete as it would be unfair to others. Spokesman Bruno Sassi said:

“Every effort has been made to facilitate the best possible training. But as we have already seen at these Games, for athletes who choose to compete in multiple disciplines and/or multiple events, conflicts can sometimes be inevitable.”

It remains to be seen how Gu would manage for halfpipe practice sessions.
