Former UCLA gymnast Chae Campbell basically confirmed the alleged racist behavior from the controversial 2022 season with the UCLA Bruins. Her reaction left fellow former UCLA gymnast Margzetta Frazier needing to set the record straight.
Back in 2022, when Chris Waller was still UCLA’s women’s gymnastics head coach, allegations were placed on freshman Alexis Jeffrey about using racist language before transferring to LSU. At the time, Frazier and Norah Flatley publicly called out this racist behavior as they even told fans that their pleas against the same were disregarded by Waller and his coaching staff.
Recently, appearing on GymCastic, Campbell admitted that she doesn’t agree with the outlook that the UCLA coaches were not racist.
“To me, the motives changed and I didn’t want any part of that, but, um, my coaches were not racist and that’s the narrative that was kind of put out there. So I didn’t agree with that,” Campbell said. “And it, you know, it, it ruined the guy’s career. It ruined people’s careers.”
Under the comments section of the above post, Frazier set the record straight. According to Frazier, Campbell chose silence at the time when the UCLA seniors were fighting against racial treatment.
“Standing up for you @chae.jada almost ruined my career,” Frazier wrote. “You even apologized to me in tears, my last season for not having my back. You pulled out of the podcast Amanda hosted for us an hour before. You cried in practice every single day. We fought for you. You were silent. You had and relayed most of the information to me because I was not there when situations occurred with the freshmen. As seniors, we had a responsibility to protect you all.”
Frazier also said that Waller was not racist as she spoke in favor of the head coach, much to Campbell’s denial.
“I loved Chris like a father figure and his family very much. He was my favorite coach. Being racist and racially insensitive are not the same. I never said anyone was racist. Your mother called mine in tears to be there for you and talk to Chris about your hardships in the gym. This is sad. My trauma and yours shouldn’t be a kiki @gymcastic … Chae, I’m happy you finally found your voice.”

Chae Campbell Hits Back With Solid Reply to Margzetta Frazier
After learning about Margzetta Frazier’s defense for Chris Waller, Chae Campbell was quick to reject multiple accounts of events stated.
“I say this with love, but this simply isn’t true,” Campbell replied. “You’re pushing a narrative that you were trying to save me and that I was helpless, and that’s not accurate.”
Campbell revealed she chose not to speak publicly at the time, not because she couldn’t.
“I didn’t come to you because I was bullied by anyone, and that was never the narrative I shared with you or anyone else” Campbell continued. “My voice was never lost; it simply wasn’t shared on social media (at the time), by choice. That was not how I wanted to handle things.”
Campbell also denied Frazier’s claim that she said Chris Waller was racist.
“I never claimed that you said Chris was a racist,” Campbell said. “I was addressing an ongoing narrative that was put out there after your podcast that you didn’t correct. The apology you’re referring to is taken out of context.”
While Campbell admitted that her mother called Frazier’s mother, but not because she was “crying to save me.”
“Our parents talked, and both expressed concerns about how poorly the situation was being handled,” Campbell added.

Campbell also said not to imply anything from a clickbait video from GymCastic. The entire conversation is not yet released, so one must exercise caution in the absence of full information.
